Last week I was in Manchester painting a new mural. @tre_stead

Before any colour touches the wall, there’s a lot of thinking about composition, rhythm, and the people who will live with it.

Working at this scale changes the relationship between body and surface. Every decision carries weight.

The piece is finished. I’m letting it settle before I share it.

New mural in progress. Manchester. 🧱🎨

Thank you, @tre_stead, for commissioning the piece and for preparing the wall so carefully before I arrived. It really makes all the difference.

I spent a couple of days designing and refining from home. Travelled up on Sunday with @benbrownsingsongs. Monday was about catching up with Tre, setting up, walking through the space and tracing the sketch onto the wall. Yesterday the big blocks of colour started going in.

This year was a busy one. I met lovely people, got to try new things and work on projects outside my comfort zone 🧚🏽‍♀️

It felt like a time of exploration with a touch of chaos, such is life! 🤣🦹🏽‍♀️

I painted more small pieces than usual, attended and delivered a few workshops, and travelled more than ever 🏞️

It was all very exciting!

This gallery brings together some of the collaborations and experiences I got to be part of this year, and I hope the next one brings even more creative challenges.

1, 2 & 3. In collaboration with @colmuseums, I created a portrait of Margaret Cavendish and five fun characters inspired by The Blazing World for an exhibition at Hollytrees Museum celebrating her life and work. @colchestercitycouncil

4. Sketches for a commission to create a light banner for Dovercourt, which will be installed in 2026, after winter.

5 & 6. Details from the design of three massive murals. I can’t share the full images yet, but they’ll be installed in 2026.

7 -11. I created visuals for Ben Brown’s live performances, designed assets and worked as his tour manager to make sure everything was in place, so Ben could do his thing. @benbrownsingsongs 💕

12 & 13 Finally got hold of the stickers and T-shirts I designed for @blackcactusstudio 🖤

14 & 15 An exhibition at @_hahc_, where I had a few new pieces.

16 & 17 @beans.on.toast invited me to be artist in residence at @foolhardyfolkfestival 🙏 I sold most of my canvases! It was such a great day. Thanks @emmgibbphoto for the lovely shots

18 @frankturner invited me to be artist in residence at the @losteveningsfest festival in Edinburgh, four days of pure fun! Thanks @tre_stead for your support 🩵

19 & 20 I recovered the photos of a painting I made last year for some clients in Hardleigh, and I can finally share it.

I must be honest with you. After moving continents three times, I don’t really know how to celebrate Christmas anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️🫠

I’ve adopted traditions from the places I’ve lived in, maybe even some I don’t fully understand 🙈

Despite my confusion, the most important part of it all to me is that, for those who are privileged enough, this is a time to have some extra fun and spend some quality time with friends and family 🥰🎉🎄🐣

Last Thursday, @benbrownsingsongs and I watched @theclienteleband, one of my favourite bands ever; prime British pop.

Colchester Museums invited me to design five more life-size characters, and I will expand on their creation in future posts. In the meantime, go and see the exhibition if you can 🙌🏼

Deadlines and demanding projects can sometimes cloud the joy of creating 🫠

Illustrating @benbrownstagram_ ’s unreleased pieces brings me back to that simple pleasure of experimenting freely. It also gives me the challenge of creating in a short period of time outside of work 🧚🏽‍♀️

Balancing work and life feels like an illusion when art is both your job and passion. Creating is a very personal experience, even when it’s for others. My style reflects who I am, so separating life from work feels difficult 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sometimes, the best way to rest is to step away from sketchbooks and screens, and go outside with no particular plans 🐣

I’m having a break from work—kind of. I’ve been enjoying some music and checking the photo archives from a chair in the backyard.

The festival celebrates women and showcases local talent in painting, music, literature, and dance 🎨🎭🎤✍️💃🏽

@visitfelixstowe and the Ipswich Building Society, now the @suffolkbuildingsociety, sponsored this first panel 🙏

The festival has evolved, and so has the imagery. I’d make a couple of things differently now, as three years have passed, but I still love it, and it’s become a Wamfest classic 🏛️

I painted it in February at the peak of winter. Thanks, Jon Swallow, for capturing me in the best winter-mural-outdoor-painting gowns. We even made it to the newspapers ⛄️

This first design is on T-shirts we still wear. There’s a convenient photo of a lovely bunch of WAMwomen in front of the wings I painted for @beachstreetfelixstowe 🦋

Trying to fit hours of work in two minutes feels a bit 🥶

In the middle of the process, I forgot to clean some reference marks, and there were black spots between the window and two layers of dried paint 🥶🥵 I had to peel the bits off and repaint 🤧😆 It was a delicate and precise task.

I enjoyed every part of the process, and I’m very pleased with the results!

I feel a bit nostalgic after finishing each project, so let’s make sure that I keep busy. Give me your windows and walls to paint 😌🤩

No AI was harmed during the process; I just tried to mimic it. Cry now, AI - I’ll cry later when I’m forced to change my career and become someone who deals with human beings.

In any case, watching Dingus Khan perform is a life-changing experience - @benbrownstagram didn’t ask me to say this, by the way. I’m a huge fan of the band; they throw things at you, perform rather embarrassing choreographies, and Ben always showcases his premium buttocks during the shows – a privilege reserved for the best.
